Utah Olympic Oval - Facility

A sampling of photos of the Utah Olympic Oval facility, which is in Kearns, near Salt Lake City, Utah. All photos (except the first two) were taken during the first event at the oval, the World Speed Skating Championship - Single Distance in March 2001.

The building is architecturally quite spectacular from the exterior, with its cantilever roof suspension system and modern appearance. During its first event, it managed to claim half the world records and is destined to become the fastest ice in the world.

It was rather cloudy and humid, with a bit of rain. Dryer conditions would have made the ice even faster.
